How this Kirkland Personal Trainer Discovered Passion for Health and Fitness

A few years ago, I discovered my passion for health and fitness, and started making it a more important part of my daily life. Little did I know that this small passion would be the impetus for changing my entire life around, and that I now own a Kirkland personal training studio! Since then, I keep telling anyone who will listen: find what you are passionate about and try to do more of it!

It’s not about redefining your career or devoting your entire life what you are passionate about (although that’s what it became for me). It’s about investing time in something that is invigorating, engaging and satisfying as a fundamental part of cultivating and maintaining your health and happiness.

So, if you’re ready to take a little time in your life to do something that just plain makes you happy, start with these three simple steps.

1. Identify your passion: Not all of us know right away what it is that we love to do. If you’re in that camp, try keeping a daily log of three things you love doing, and three things you hate. At the end of a week or two, look back and see if you can find any patterns. Then do more of the things you love, and less of what you hate! If you have something you love so much, you’d do it for free or you can’t stop talking about it, or you don’t care if you do it well or not, that’s probably your passion!
2. What is getting in your way?: Ok, now that you’ve found what it is that you love to do, write down a list of obstacles/reasons why you don’t or can’t do it. Then figure out strategies to remove those obstacles. Even if it’s just spending 30 minutes once a week, carve out time in your schedule and make it a priority. When you nourish the unique parts of yourself, you will be a better employee, coworker, spouse, parent and friend because you will be happier and less stressed out.

3. Make an Action Plan!: Maybe you like baking, but let’s be realistic, you’re not going to be the pastry chef at Canlis overnight! Make an action plan with short term, achievable goals that will help you on your way to achieving your bigger, long term goals. And it can be whatever you want it to be. Start by taking one cooking class, or start by tackling one recipe.

Remember: the goal here isn’t to necessarily reinvent your life. It’s about finding that little island of free time, where you can spend doing something that takes care of your spirit, and revitalizes you, giving you renewed energy and passion for life in general.

One way to get back on track is having a healthy life style and making time for yourself. Participating in Kirkland small groups at Embody health can be the first step you need to take to reach your goals.
