Healthy Living for Lasting Change

Healthy Living for Lasting Change

Healthy Living for a Healthy future by your Kirkland Personal Trainer

Did you know that roughly 2/3 of Americans are overweight and/or obese making it one of the largest epidemics in the United States? This number makes me cringe every time I look at it, but it’s not shocking given the lifestyle many of us are living.

This is scary guys!… and some of the major factors contributing to this epidemic, like our lack of regular exercise, lack of good nutrition, and most importantly, our lack knowledge on the subject, can be easily changed if we really want them to be.

BUT… you may be asking yourself: “with all the contradictory information out there (Carbs: good or bad? Weights or no weights?), what are we supposed to believe?” Well, you’ve come to the right place…my goal with this blog is to present ONLY the simple facts about fitness and nutrition to help guide us in the healthiest – yet most realistic – direction.

My main reason for starting this blog is to show people that living a healthy life can be simplified, realistic, and easily maintained. Let me clarify this statement a bit more — getting to a healthy and simplified life isn’t without challenge, but once you do you’ll never look back. In other words: “without a struggle, there can be no progress” – Frederick Douglass (I love this saying because it applies everywhere!)

This all came about with a need to change my own lifestyle to improve my overall health (I definitely didn’t have the metabolism of a teenager anymore). I wasn’t unhealthy in the sense that I was really overweight, on medications, and unable to get off the couch, but my daily energy levels were low, I found it hard to focus, and my motivation for life had dropped way off.

After realizing that change was necessary, I started learning more about how to improve my life and found that fitness and nutrition were a recurring theme. This helped motivate me even more, so I decided to pursue this subject further and become an ISSA Certified Fitness Trainer and Nutrition Specialist. Becoming a Kirkland personal trainer gives me the opportunity to share and help others with a like-minded goal.

With that said, in this blog I’ll tackle real life topics like healthy weight loss secrets, fitness tips and tricks you can actually use, foods that will change your life, and other simple things we can all do to improve our health and change our lives. I’ll also attempt to debunk some common fitness and nutrition myths with sound research and experience.

Armed with my research, education, personal experiences, and a passion for living a simple, happy, and healthy lifestyle…I’m here to share my knowledge with the world. I’d love to hear from you, so please feel free to post any comments or questions (but please keep it tasteful) so that we can all learn from each other.

Keep it simple!
